Higher Heights for America PAC endorses Black women candidates for 2026 primaries

SPECIAL BULLETIN

The 2026 midterm elections in November will determine the balance of power in U.S. House and Senate. Will Democrats gain enough seats to overturn Republican majorities? If not, the likelihood of a second Trump term in 2028 increases.

Hence, Higher Heights for America PAC (HHFA) “… the only political action committee exclusively dedicated to electing more progressive Black women at the federal and statewide levels and as mayors in the 100 most populated U.S. cities” endorses candidates for state and federal offices.

(Currently, two Black women serve in the U.S. Senate--Angela Alsobrooks, D-MD, and Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-DE.)

HHFA has endorsed the following primary candidates in Texas, Illinois, and Georgia.

Texas (primary date-March 3)

U. S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) candidate for U.S. Senate says, “the issue is the Senate” because Senate Republicans have blocked passage of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (to restore and strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965) as well as the Freedom to Vote Act (to establish national voting standards).

Houston native Amanda Edwards is a candidate for Texas’ historic18th Congressional District (previously represented in the U.S. House by the late Barbara Jordan and the late Sheila Jackson Lee).

Edwards’ platform: Tackle the costs of higher education, strengthen the rights of workers and support reforms in the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act (reintroduced in September 2025 but awaits further action by Senate Judiciary Committee.)

Illinois (primary date-March 17)

Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton-in office since 2018-is running for U.S. Senate.

Stratton’s platform: Medicare for All, $25 minimum wage, and tax cuts for the middle class.

U. S. Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02), who has held office since 2013, is one of three Illinois Democrats competing for the U.S. Senate seat.

Kelly’s platform: Cap childcare costs, strengthen SS, and lower energy costs.

On January 14, she filed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem, for “obstructing congressional oversight of immigration enforcement efforts and abusing her position for personal gain,” according to CBS News.

Georgia (primary date-May 19)

Keisha Lance Bottoms is a candidate for governor of Georgia. Her previously held offices include mayor of Atlanta from 2018-2022, city council member, and prosecutor representing children in juvenile court.

Bottoms’ platform: Expand Medicaid in GA and eliminate state income taxes for teachers.
